Scottsdale Public Art Opportunities

CANAL CONVERGENCE WATER + ART + LIGHT – November 5-14th 2021

Description: 
Canal Convergence is an annual signature event featuring large-scale interactive artworks by local and international artists, along with hands-on activities, live music and performances.

Needs:  
Volunteers for activities located along the Scottsdale Waterfront.

Training:  
Training will be provided on-site when volunteers report for their shifts.

Ongoing Opportunities

Concierge Program

Description:  
This position greets the public at a variety of events and performances, sells memberships and gives information and directions while helping promote the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ programs.

Needs:  
Outgoing, reliable individuals who are willing to learn new information on a regular basis.

Requirements:  
2–3 hour shifts, professional attire, outgoing personality.

General volunteer training: September 11, 10:00–11:00 a.m., and September 30, 6:00–7:00 p.m.  

Concierge training: September 11, 9:00–10:00 a.m., and October 5, 6:00–7:00 p.m.  

Both the volunteer and concierge training sessions must be completed before any concierge duties are carried out.   


 

Usher Program

Description: 

Ushers are expected to scan tickets, know the safety procedures of the theater, and maintain order while greeting and directing patrons to their seats during events. 

Needs:  

Ushers for presented and rental events in three- to four-hour shifts, mostly nights and weekends.  

Requirements:  
Must be able to walk up and down stairs, operate in dimly lit conditions, and read small print on tickets. Must be professional, reliable and courteous. 

General volunteer training: September 11, 10:00–11:00 a.m., and September 30, 6:00–7:00 p.m.  

Usher training: September 11, 11:00 a.m. – noon, and October 5, 7:00–8:00 p.m.  

Both the volunteer and usher training sessions must be completed before any usher duties are carried out. 


 

Artist Merchandise Sales

Description:  
Assist in selling artist merchandise during performances. Items range from vinyl albums/CDs to T-shirts to posters, depending on the artist.  

Needs:  
Two volunteers per shift.  

Requirements:  
Shifts vary depending on artist(s). Volunteers are expected to stay throughout the entire show unless stated otherwise. Must be comfortable handling money and credit cards. 

General volunteer training: September 11, 10:00–11:00 a.m., and September 30, 6:00–7:00 p.m.  


 

Retail Volunteers

Description:  
With stores in Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), volunteers are needed to assist with sales and handling of a variety of merchandise.  

Needs:  
Outgoing, reliable individuals who are willing to showcase a variety of merchandise.  

Requirements:  
Shifts are noon – 5:00 p.m., for regular and ongoing assignments. Additionally, volunteers are needed during evening and weekend shows and events. Must be comfortable selling merchandise and interacting with visitors.  

General volunteer training: September 11, 10:00–11:00 a.m., and September 30, 6:00–7:00 p.m.  


 

Box Office

Description:  
A volunteer is needed to assist the box office with will-call tickets in advance of performances.  

Needs:  
One volunteer per show.  

Requirements:  
Must be able to read tickets quickly and efficiently to keep the will-call lines short.  

General volunteer training: September 11, 10:00–11:00 a.m., and September 30, 6:00–7:00 p.m.  


 

Education Events

Description:  
A variety of educational events occur throughout the season for which assistance is needed. Various duties may be required, including helping direct students around the campus, participating in arts-and-crafts projects or running an activity.

Requirements:  
Must be comfortable with children and families.  

General volunteer training: September 11, 10:00–11:00 a.m., and September 30, 6:00–7:00 p.m.

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts Special Events

Alli Ortega Empty Bowls – 2020-2021

Description:
Help raise funds to fight hunger in our community through the sale of handcrafted bowls created by local community artisans and youth. All proceeds are donated to Vista del Camino Social Services, which provides a variety of assistance for Scottsdale residents to meet basic needs of individuals and families in crisis, and to relieve economic and emotional stress.

Needs:
Two volunteers per shift. Volunteers sell bowls to guests attending performances.

Requirements:
A big heart and a smile! Must be comfortable handling money.

Sunday A’Fair – February 2021 – March 2021

Description:
Sunday A’Fair presents free outdoor concerts by top Arizona musicians in Scottsdale Civic Center Mall, along with an arts-and-crafts market, fun activities for children and families and free docent-led tours of the sculptures in the park.

Needs:
Two volunteers to assist in the family area with arts-and-crafts projects.

Requirements:
Be comfortable around children and families.

51st Scottsdale Arts Festival – March 12–14, 2021

Description:
The Scottsdale Arts Festival is one of the premier arts festivals in the country. Held every March during the height of Scottsdale’s tourist season, the festival draws thousands of visitors over the course of a three-day weekend. Proceeds from the festival help support Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ programs.

Needs:
More than 300 volunteers in various areas:

Gates
Beverage stand (21+ years)
Family areas
Retail
Auction
Artist hospitality
Lemonade stand
Etc.

Requirements:
Full-day, eight-hour shifts. Volunteers are provided with lunch and T-shirts, and are required to attend one of two training sessions.
