All applicants must attend a training session before they can begin volunteering at Scottsdale Arts. Training is offered each fall, and small-group training is offered throughout the season on an as-needed basis, depending on the volume of incoming applicants.

Volunteer Opportunities
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts hosts experiences that include classical music and rock concerts to Broadway shows, dance performances, and everything in between. The Center’s 2024–25 season kicks off in September and is filled with diverse voices, talents, and perspectives from around the world.
Volunteers support the Center and its events in a variety of ways. Volunteers also enjoy perks associated with the Center, including discounted tickets, entrance to a selection of shows they volunteer for, store discounts, and more!
We kindly ask volunteers to commit to ongoing service if they participate in the Center’s volunteer programs. For those interested in short-term service commitments, we invite you to participate in our special events (details further down).
Concierge Program
Description:
Volunteers in the concierge program greet the public at a variety of events and performances and give information and directions while helping promote Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts programs. Volunteers who enjoy socializing with patrons of all ages and keeping up to date with Scottsdale Arts activities may find this role appealing.
Requirements:

- 2–3-hour shifts
- Standing or sitting
- Uniform: professional attire
Training:
Volunteers in the concierge program attend the volunteer training session and complete two concierge training shifts before carrying out concierge duties. We ask concierges to regularly attend monthly concierge meetings so they can stay informed of updates in the organization.
Usher Program
Description:
Volunteers in the usher program scan tickets and greet and direct patrons to their seats during performances. Ushers have a high level of contact with our patrons, often being the “go-to” person for patrons in need of assistance. Volunteers familiar with or interested in learning theater etiquette and procedures may enjoy this role.
Requirements:

- Shift length: 3–5 hours
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs, often in dimly lit conditions
- Must be able to read small print when necessary
- Uniform: black pants and white shirt
Training:
Volunteers in the Usher Program attend both the volunteer and usher training sessions before carrying out usher duties. Ushers-in-training will be taught how to navigate our theater spaces, read and scan tickets, and assist with patron questions.
The Store
Description:
The Store @ the Center carries a curated selection of jewelry, apparel, toys, music, books, cards, and home and office décor. Volunteers in The Store socialize with guests, help them locate items and try on jewelry, and work with staff to maintain a good flow of traffic in the store. Volunteers who enjoy socializing, thrive in busy and energetic spaces, and/or love gift-giving may enjoy this role.

- Mostly standing
- Uniform: professional attire
Training:
Volunteers in The Store must attend a volunteer training session. Once assigned this role, volunteers will be taught the layout and offerings of The Store.
Box Office
Description:
The box office is the first point of contact for patrons attending events and performances, assisting patrons with ticket purchases, membership sign-ups, and more. Box office volunteers assist with will call, where patrons pick up their tickets shortly before the event. Volunteers who enjoy detail-oriented tasks and interacting with patrons of all ages may find this role appealing.

- Must be able to work in a loud environment
- Mostly sitting
- Uniform: professional attire
Training
Box Office volunteers must attend a volunteer training session. Once assigned this role, volunteers will learn how to locate and distribute will call tickets accurately.
Special Events
Description:
Scottsdale Arts presents a variety of special events throughout the season, bringing arts to the wider community. Scottsdale Arts special events are enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people each year! Special events depend upon the dedication of many wonderful volunteers who serve in various operational roles.
