Meet the Canal Convergence Team: Kiara Brown

Kiara Brown is the Canal Convergence event coordinator. Get to know Kiara through the Q&A below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Joy finds me when I can produce atmospheres where others can experience their passions coming to fruition and be inspired to create similar environments. Much of my background exists in journalistic spaces. However, I always found ways to incorporate art into my endeavors or branch out and make those event settings possible in different capacities. Where you find art, community, and a bit of music is where you’ll find me.

What duties does the Canal Convergence event coordinator have?

My role’s duties include coordinating some of the daily operations of Canal Convergence, planning and executing lounge activations, and ensuring that you have an unforgettable experience while there.

What does public art mean to you?

Public art creates spaces that focus on preserving community and identity, allowing artists to grow and be audacious. I always conceptualize public art as a platform to facilitate dialogue and let the communities we serve tell their own stories.

How did you get into the field of public art, and what led you to this career?

I knew that I wanted to work in more creative spaces, and it has been incredibly freeing and exciting to experience a career transition like this one, which empowers me to submerse myself more into an artistic atmosphere. Equal parts opportunity for daily exposure to fine art, public art, and like-minded creatives led me here.

What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy reading, writing, watching films, going to concerts, and baking in my spare time. If you see me around, say hello and give me a book or film recommendation!
