The Wood Brothers' harmonies, humor, and grooves lock together into something that feels both spontaneous and inevitable. Singer-songwriter Olive Klug opens the evening.
The Squirrel Nut Zippers return with the joyous, raucous Christmas Caravan, performing heartwarming ballads and boisterous dance tunes while conjuring an atmosphere nestled somewhere between the wondrous lights of Christmas and the backroom din of a speakeasy. This show features holiday hits and classics, selections from Squirrel Nut Zippers’ holiday album Christmas Caravan, and the finest new and old SNZ catalog music. Inspired by 1920s jazz, klezmer, and old-time music, Squirrel Nut Zippers’ endlessly curious and innovative leader Jimbo Mathus has concocted a truly original show.
“There is of course jazz of various stripes (mainly pre-WWII varieties) on this deliciously wide ranging night of entertainment, but there’s so much more: sounds, identifiable and not, emanating from mysterious times and places, not the least of which is New Orleans, their home base, a land that, forever and still, has a mind of its own.” — Relix
About the Artist
Recorded in the heat of New Orleans and fueled by a youthful hunger to unlock the secrets of old-world jazz, Squirrel Nut Zippers’ watershed album, Hot (1996), quickly made the band a household name. SNZ continued to find success through the years with releases like 2018’s Beasts of Burgundy, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart. The band’s most recent record, 2020’s Lost Songs of Doc Souchon, featured newly penned Zippers songs alongside a few tunes from past times. Since reactivating in mid-2016, SNZ has performed to packed houses across the country and around the world.
