About the Artist
Booker T. Jones is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer, and arranger. Best known as the frontman of Booker T. & the MGs, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 alongside the band. From his earliest years in segregated Memphis, music was the driving force in Jones’s life. While he worked paper routes and played gigs in local nightclubs to pay for lessons and support his family, Jones, on the side, was also recording sessions in what became the famous Stax Studios—all while still in high school. His recordings with the genre-defining Booker T. and the MGs went on to sell millions of copies and earned “Green Onions” a spot in Rolling Stone's list of top 500 songs of all time. Outside of the band, Jones made the charts as a solo artist; produced albums for Rita Coolidge, Bill Withers, and Willie Nelson (Stardust); and lent his trademark keyboards to many artists, ranging in genre from Ray Charles to Neil Young. A multi-Grammy winner, Jones has led all-star bands for numerous events associated with President Barack Obama.
