From Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms to fiery bebop and tango-infused chamber works, Paquito D’Rivera’s music is joyful, vibrant, and celebratory.
Celebrate the 10th anniversary of BİRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) with a special performance of the film’s soundtrack by its Grammy-winning composer, Antonio Sánchez. This performance, in which he plays live alongside a screening of the film, has been regarded by The Guardian as “[injecting] a vitality that maps out the emotions of the film's characters with precision.” Despite this precision, each performance remains completely unique and largely improvisational. The original score for Birdman consists entirely of solo jazz percussion, written and performed by Sánchez. Birdman director Alejandro G. Iñárritu said the film’s music helped him structure the scenes, noting, “the drums, for me, were a great way to find the rhythm of the film.” Rarely is a solo musician responsible for a film’s entire soundtrack, making this live performance an intimate and visceral experience.
