Enter Infinite and be surrounded by hundreds of illuminated spheres that form a symphony of notes. Colorful light and rich sound drift and flow in clusters throughout the space, composing an immersive ambient atmosphere that seems almost limitless. While wandering through the artwork, the sound of stringed instruments ripples out in waves and then disappears, creating a dynamic three-dimensional experience. The notes are programmed to be randomized and become longer as the composition develops, highlighting the unique quality of the instrumental tones. Infinite fosters an environment for each experience to be uniquely personal and intuitive yet also shared. Here, all are welcome to connect, explore, and bask in the wonder and emotion this immersive installation may spark.
The sound for Infinite was commissioned by Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and performed and recorded by Lunar Calendar in collaboration with Squidsoup. Organized by Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and curated by Julie Ganas, curator of engagement and digital initiatives.
Exhibition in honor of Muriel Magenta, whose legacy continues to inspire.
Squidsoup
Innovators in the use of light, sound, technology, and 3D space to create new forms of dynamic and beguiling experiences, Squidsoup’s work questions and blurs the concept of presence and physicality. They use digitally controlled media to alter and augment physical spaces—to compose perception-altering journeys of the mind. Their work has been seen by millions of people across the globe since 1997 in galleries, museums, live events, festivals, and exhibitions, including London’s Alexandra Palace, International Centre for Light Art, and the Burning Man Festival.
Lunar Calendar
We’re Lunar Calendar, a collective of artists creating concerts where music is seen, heard, and felt. Our shows fuse classical chamber music with contemporary sound and visual design, offering a new kind of listening experience: multi-sensory, immersive, and alive.
