Winds and Wanderings carries you across landscapes, eras, and musical worlds, beginning with Anna Clyne’s Sound and Fury, a bold and electrifying work full of rhythmic drive and modern intensity. It’s music that pulses with energy and sets the stage for a journey of contrast and discovery.
The orchestra’s very own principal flutist, Robert Heiligenberg, brings lyrical brilliance and virtuosity to Reinecke’s Flute Concerto, a work that showcases the instrument’s expressive range, from delicate and intimate to bright and soaring.
The journey, led by Guest Conductor Tiffany Lu (music director of the Pierre Monteux School and Music Festival) concludes with Mendelssohn’s Symphony no. 3, the Scottish, inspired by the composer’s travels through the misty landscapes of Scotland. Sweeping, atmospheric, and richly evocative, it transports listeners to another place entirely.
