Sep 25, 2025 / 5:00 p.m.

Celebrate the artists and honor the visual stories shared throughout this thought-provoking exhibition.

Join us for the closing reception of Photography in Translation to celebrate the artists and honor the visual stories shared throughout this thought-provoking exhibition. As the exhibition draws to a close, this special event offers a final opportunity to experience artwork that explores identity, language, and belonging through experimental photographic practices. Light refreshments will be served at the free reception.

Drop-in Activity: UV & Me

Drop in any time during the closing reception. No registration needed!

Explore the magic of cyanotype printing, a 19th-century photographic process that uses UV light to create striking blue-and-white images––no camera required! Using UV-sensitive paper, found objects, and a UV flashlight, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind indoor “sun print” to take home. Whether you're an art lover, science enthusiast, or just curious, this playful process reveals how light and shadow shape our world.

We'll also have take-home materials exploring the history of cyanotypes and guiding you through the Photography in Translation exhibition, connecting the past and present of photographic art.

Photography in Translation is an exhibition by Arizona photographers, who have family and traditions originating outside the country, as they navigate what it means to live in the United States of America. The artworks attempt to translate their inner voices to communicate with contemporary society through thoughtful imagery, utilizing unconventional photography techniques and presentations that address language and the self, translation, identity, and portraiture. Co-curated with award-winning Phoenix artist and photographer Claire A. Warden.
