Returning to the Center after eight years, Parsons Dance delivers heart, athleticism, and pure joy in motion, thrilling audiences with bold ensemble work and effortless movement.
Elegance meets percussive power in Braided Roots, a new showcase of flamenco in full force. Sweeping ensemble works, vivid costumes, and solos that embody the raw, intimate improvisation that sparks between singer, dancer, and guitarist are all part of this latest production from Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre. Celebrating ten years of partnership with Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Braided Roots ignites the theater through dynamically textured dance, caressing the air while striking the stage with footwork that blurs the line between rhythm and rebellion. Vocals span the emotional spectrum—from wound to wink—while masterful guitar creates an intricate and expressive soundscape.
About the Artist
In this return to Scottsdale Arts' Virginia G. Piper Theater, Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre’s new production honors a century-long legacy of Spanish dance in the Valley of the Sun. The title speaks to the tangled beauty of tradition and transformation—Chacón’s path as an American artist, flamenco’s cross-cultural inheritance, and the living dialogue between lands, bodies, and histories. Braided Roots draws from flamenco’s traditional and theatrical legacies to explore hybridity, cultural memory, and what it means to practice flamenco as an American artist shaped by the entanglements of empire and migration.
