In the 1970s, Scottsdale experienced a cultural shift, from living up to its “West’s Most Western Town” slogan to becoming a cultural hub in the Southwest. Contemporary art galleries, such as Elaine Horwitch Galleries, Suzanne Brown Gallery, Riva Yares Gallery, and Udinotti Gallery were new on the scene and competing for the best talent. And Scottsdale Center for the Arts opened its doors in 1975 as both a venue for performances and visual art.
A Pivotal Point in Time: Art in Scottsdale in the 1970s pays homage to those artists who were part of this shift and celebrates the 50th anniversary of what is now known as Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
