Sky Wrangler

Sky Wrangler is a 25-foot-tall, interactive hot air balloon sculpture that transforms the mythology of the American West into a playful experience of light, motion, and film. Visitors enter the basket and rotate it by pushing against a fixed center wheel; as the basket turns, projected rainbow light and historic black-and-white western film imagery spin across the glowing balloon overhead. Pulling a burner-style “gas lever” makes the colors flare brighter and more saturated. When no one is interacting, the balloon rests in a slow-moving wash of rainbow color, layered with classic western imagery. Built from aluminum and steel with a rear-projection fabric balloon, Sky Wrangler combines sculpture, projection, responsive technology, and physical participation, aligning especially with Canal Convergence’s themes of art and technology, light, and interactivity.

About William Nemitoff with Curious Form

William Nemitoff is the founder of Curious Form, a creative fabrication studio that transforms architectural materials into sculptural environments that respond to light, movement, and human presence. Using computational design, paired with a blend of traditional and digital fabrication, Nemitoff draws inspiration from natural systems and the communities that inhabit them to transform public spaces that invite reflection, connection, and wonder. Nemitoff’s permanent and temporary works have been installed across the United States and internationally. He holds a master of architecture from Tulane Universitym, and his work has been recognized by multiple Burning Man Honorarium Grants and featured at festivals worldwide, such as Vivid Sydney, Orlando Immerse Festival, Canal Convergence, and Lune Fête.
