With nontraditional instrumentation, these architects of jamgrass create their own weirdly unique style.

This performance is UA with a guardian.

If you want to understand what Americana music is, come to a Leftover Salmon show, where these superbly talented musicians effortlessly glide from a bluegrass number born on the front porch to the down-and-dirty Cajun swamps, with stops at New Orleans’ Bourbon Street and the hallowed halls of Nashville's Ryman Auditorium along the way, before finally landing in the mountains of Colorado. Since their earliest days as a forward thinking, progressive bluegrass band with the guts to add drums to the mix, the members of Leftover Salmon have long been unafraid to stir in any number of highly combustible styles into their ever-evolving sound. From their role as pioneers of the modern jamband scene to their current status as elder statesmen, who cast an influential shadow over every festival they play, the band members have helped keep traditional music alive while also pushing it into new psychedelic directions.

About the Artists

Few bands stick around for 30 years. Even fewer bands leave a legacy during that time that marks them as truly special, once-in-lifetime bands. No band has done all that and had as much fun as Leftover Salmon. The current lineup is the strongest ever assembled. Built around the core of founding members Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman, Leftover Salmon is now powered by banjo wiz Andy Thorn and driven by the steady rhythm section of bassist Greg Garrison, drummer Alwyn Robinson, and Jay Starling on Dobro and keys. This lineup continues the long, storied history of Salmon, which found them first emerging from the progressive bluegrass world and coming of age as one the original jam bands—before rising to become architects of what has become known as “jamgrass.” The band helped create a landscape where musicians schooled in the traditional rules of bluegrass can break free.

Scottsdale Arts is the only authorized ticket-seller for this event.
