Welcome to week 2 of the #GrapefruitAtHome challenge! This week we are venturing into the painting category. For a medium rich with tradition, Yoko Ono had very different ideas on what a painting could be. She pushed the boundaries by rethinking materiality and believed that “the message is the medium.” So the instruction pieces for this week pose the question, “Do you need paint and canvas in order to create a painting?”

Here are your #GrapefruitAtHome painting challenges:

Challenge 1: Yoko Ono, Shadow Piece, 1963.
Challenge 2: Yoko Ono, Painting to Be Constructed in Your Head, 1962.

We asked SMoCA staff to participate in the #GrapefruitAtHome challenge and this week we got this amazing interpretation of Shadow Piece:

So, let’s see what you’ve got!
